Yoga of 12-Step Recovery a holistic model to address the physical, mental and spiritual dis-ease of addiction. Informed by the latest research in neuroscience and trauma healing, Y12SR “connects the dots” by combining the somatic approach of yoga with the cognitive approach of the 12-step recovery model to create a sustainable platform for recovery. Each meeting will begin with a 12-step based open discussion followed by a gentle, beginner-friendly yoga practice. Y12SR is open to anyone and everyone dealing with their own addictive behavior or anyone affected by the addictive behavior of others. This is a donation-based group inclusive to all A’s.
Please wear comfortable clothing. Yoga mats are free for use at the studio. There is a suggested donation of $12 paid at the door. You can register for Y12SR beforehand through the link listed below or you are welcome to just show up. If you have any questions or would like to learn more about the program, please feel free to reach out to Peyton Gosser at 919-909-1245 or dcyogarecovery@gmail.com.

The locations at which we have offered weekly or monthly trauma sensitive yoga classes, simple chair yoga exercises and mindfulness classes to clients and staff at several Catholic Charities outreach programs include:
The Transitional Rehabilitation Program, a program for adult men who are recovering from addiction. The clients ranged in age from early 20’s to 60’s and survivors of addiction to substance abuse and some had physical gunshot wounds, and to accommodate we had both chair and standing practices offered simultaneously. While this is a mandatory program, all of the clients were engaged and the ones who were not advanced in age or had mobility issues were eager to get on the mat, and keep the mats that Anahata donated to the shelter. We could tell from their energy how happy they were to see each us week.
Trafficking Victims Assistance Program. Yoga and mindfulness was offered in person and online to a group of 10-12 women once a month. Received with attention the women found connection and healing from the classes offered
The Spanish Catholic Center. The clients work with communities at risk or in need in Washington, D.C. they are attorneys, social workers, case workers, and medical staff. They were very receptive to and grateful for Anahata and for the opportunities to develop a self-care routine with yoga.
The Harriet Tubman homeless shelter for women. Many of the women who attended had little mobility, so yoga in a chair was offered to empower these women to connect to their body and breath. The women look forward to their weekly class.
During the covid-19 pandemic most sessions were postponed or provided online. We are resuming meeting for class outdoors as possible.
